On July 24, 2009, CQ Weekly published an article by Maura Reynolds that looks at the Obama Administration’s progress on transparency in its first six months in office. The article, “Open Government – or ‘Transparency Theater’?” highlights some of the White House’s positive steps, such as the Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government that Obama issued on his first full day in office. Reynolds also looks at some areas where the Administration has not lived up to its promise of greater openness, such as the Administration’s decision to reject requests to release White House visitor logs to the public.
AALL is closely following the Administration’s progress on transparency, and we will continue to work to ensure that President Obama meets his promise to create a more transparent and accountable government.
